Meet Dr. Peter L. DeSciscio


Dr. Peter L. DeSciscio was raised in Edison, New Jersey and attended St. Joseph’s High School in Metuchen.  He then attended St. Peter’s College in Jersey City, where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology in 1981.  While there, he was inducted into the Cross Keys Honor Society.

Dr. DeSciscio attended the New Jersey Dental School and graduated with a Doctor of Dental Medicine Degree (DMD) in 1985.  While at New Jersey Dental School, he was elected President of the Student Government Association for 2 years, 1983-1985.

After serving in a General Practice Residency Program at the Jersey City Medical Center, Dr. DeSciscio was asked to return to the New Jersey Dental School in Newark, New Jersey to teach.  His teaching commitment was for one day per week and then he was asked to become the Dental Director of the Plainfield Health Center, where the New Jersey Dental School supplied the dental services.  This increased Dr. DeSciscio’s teaching commitment to two and a half days per week.  In 1987, Dr. DeSciscio purchased a dental practice in Perth Amboy on Smith Street and then, in 1991, purchased the practice at our current location, 283 High Street.  

In 1994, Dr. DeSciscio took a sabbatical from the Dental School and became the Program Director for the General Practice Residency Program at the J.F.K. Medical Center in Edison, New Jersey.  Dr. DeSciscio held this position for three years and was then asked to return to the Dental School in Newark, New Jersey at two and a half days per week in the Department of Restorative Dentistry.  He currently holds the title of Clinical Associate Professor.  In 2004, Dr. DeSciscio received the Excellence in Teaching Award awarded by the University.  Dr. DeSciscio has a great rapport with students and you may often see dental students or college students in our office ‘shadowing” Dr. DeSciscio or attending a Practice Management module.  Dr. DeSciscio has long been involved in the governance of dentistry both in the state and on a national level.  He has served as President of the Fauchard Dental Society of New Jersey, Inc., The New Jersey Dental School Alumni Association, the Middlesex County Dental Society, the New Jersey Dental School Academic Assembly and is currently the 2nd Vice President of the American Association of Dental Examiners.  Dr. DeSciscio has been the President of the New Jersey State Board of Dentistry and is still an active Board Member.  He also serves as an Examiner for the North East Regional Board of Dental Examiners, Inc., the group that licenses dentists in 15 states, including New Jersey.

Dr. DeSciscio has always held continuing dental education in high regard and has served as the President of the New Jersey Academy of General Dentistry.  He also served briefly as the Dental Director for the Continuing Education Program at the New Jersey Dental School.

Dr. DeSciscio is a member of the American Dental Association, The New Jersey Dental Association, The Middlesex County Dental Society, The Academy of General Dentistry, The New Jersey State Board of Dentistry, The North East Regional Board of Dental Examiners, as well as, The American Dental Education Association and the American Board of Dental Examiners.

Dr. DeSciscio was elected into and awarded Fellowship in the American College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists.  Both of these prestigious honors were awarded by his peers.

When Dr. DeSciscio is not in the office, he is usually traveling to one of the various organizations’ meetings.  Over the years, Dr. DeSciscio has given back to the community, lecturing in grammar schools, high schools, colleges and attending career days.  He has also managed Little League teams in both North Edison and the Fords-Clara Barton Leagues.

About Our Practice

Dr. Peter L. DeSciscio has been caring for patients for over 34 years. His dedication to patient care and dentistry remains as strong as it was when he graduated from New Jersey Dental School in 1985.

Amboy Dental Arts is located in downtown South Amboy at 210 Augusta Street in South Amboy, NJ.

We are across the street from the South Amboy train station and have plenty of free parking.
